About Turning Point

Lewis County Alternative School was founded in 2014 to help give a hand up to students who are not on track to graduate because of barriers to participating in traditional schooling. But it’s better known as its unofficial name of Turning Point, which represents the notion that many of our students have reached a juncture in their lives where they are prepared to make a positive change in their approach to school; a true Turning Point in their lives.

In all, 128 students have graduated from Turning Point since its founding. Of those:

  • 60% graduated on time
  • 11% graduated early
  • 29% graduated late
  • A woman in a graduation gown proudly holds a plaque, symbolizing her academic achievement and success.
  • Graduates in caps and gowns gather in a gym, showcasing their accomplishments and camaraderie on graduation day
  • A Turning Point graduate and their family pose at last year's graduation ceremony

Good to Know

At Turning Point, we typically serve Chehalis School District students, at the eleventh grade level and up. Our students need to be referred to Turning Point by another Chehalis School District school or they must be court ordered to attend by a referring juvenile court or probation officer.

Turning Point offers a smaller, quieter environment than a traditional high school. The majority of classwork is done online and course options. We don’t offer sports or music programs and our selection of courses and electives are smaller than traditional high school. We provide students with an alternative learning environment that recognizes that they are unique individuals with varied circumstances and needs that may not be met in a traditional school setting; and provides a supportive, caring environment where students can thrive, succeed, and graduate from high school.
